News on ACARA’s Ongoing Processes For The Development of the Australian Curriculum
Dear Colleagues,
Recently, as part of ACARA’s ongoing processes related to the development of a final Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages Paper, AFMLTA executive members were involved in a teleconference with ACARA personnel related to the recent consultation process and the resulting responses in the Shape Paper: Languages. The teleconference review was with AFMLTA as the peak professional teacher association representing languages teachers. ACARA advice is that this process is being conducted with other key agencies.
At the core of the teleconference were two initial questions: 1) Could AFMLTA identify our responses and concerns appropriately reflected in the Consultation Feedback Report? and 2) Could AFMLTA identify the responses and changes being made in the Shape Paper?
The discussion was wide ranging. Some matters require further consideration by ACARA.
The result of the consultation process should be the Consultation Feedback Report and the final (revised) Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Languages Paper being submitted to the ACARA Board for their August Meeting.
The likely outcome from there is the release of the revised Shape Paper and the Consultation Report, as well as the naming of the reconstituted Advisory Panel for Languages in late August. It is NOT anticipated that Curriculum Writers will be identified at the same time as the Advisory Panel.
Alongside these actions is the ongoing processes for developing Procedures and Guidelines to support the work of curriculum writers. AFMLTA is being involved in the consultative processes around the development of this document.
Subject to ACARA’s work plan, the staged development of language specific curriculum begins, with trial of material planned for in the latter part of 2013.
It is important to note that all Ministers of Education have affirmed their commitment to an Australian Curriculum in all 8 key learning areas under the Melbourne Declaration. That affirmation is contained in a Communique available at: http://www.mceecdya.edu.au/verve/_resources/C12_Communique_8_July_2011.pdf Please feel free to distribute the information in this email to colleagues.
Regards Sherryl

New WACE Resource Lists
The Curriculum Council is developing a series of WACE Resource Lists to support teachers and others in their selection of resources for the delivery of the WACE courses. I would welcome your assistance in including the following information in your newsletter to your members requesting their support in the development of this valuable resource.
I encourage Teachers of French to support the development of the WACE Resource Lists. This set of lists will support experienced classroom teachers, heads of learning areas, curriculum leaders and teacher-librarians, teachers new to Western Australian schools or new to teaching year 11 and 12 in their selection of resources for the delivery of the WACE courses.
Teachers can assist by opening the French Resource List (excel) document below and adding any resources (print, website and multimedia resources) that they are presently using and have found useful in the delivery of the WACE French course. To this end we will have assembled an up-to-date, reliable and respected set of resources that are used by many teachers delivering the WACE French course.
