Dear colleagues,
Welcome to 2026 and to another year with TOFA. I would like to sincerely thank the committee for their continued trust as I begin my third year as President. Balancing this role alongside full-time teaching and family life is demanding, but the professional connections, shared purpose and collective energy of our community make it worthwhile.
This year marks an important step forward for TOFA with our re-affiliation to the Languages Teachers Association of Western Australia (LTWA). This renewed partnership strengthens our collective voice in advocating for languages education. It also creates valuable opportunities to share pedagogy and professional learning across language communities, while connecting TOFA more strongly with other associations and helping secure our future within a broader professional network.
While TOFA will not host a WA French teachers’ conference in 2026, we warmly encourage members to attend the LTWA State Conference and the National French Teachers’ Conference in Canberra in November. Both events are excellent opportunities to connect and learn together. We look forward to returning to a French-specific conference in 2027.
Looking ahead, TOFA remains committed to supporting teachers through professional learning, wellbeing events and student competitions, as well as the development of WA-focused curriculum resources highlighting our shared history with France, such as our current project on the expeditions of Nicolas Baudin and Louis de Freycinet. Watch this space!
TOFA exists because of its members. Your engagement keeps our association active, relevant and strong and I look forward to another year of working together.
Amicalement,
Céline Decoux
